Be a Mother Mentor - give a new mom support and encouragement

Being a new mother has ups and downs…The ups are easy: bringing the new baby home; the first smile, first step… But with the good days, there are also those “not so great” days: baby’s been up all night and you’ve had two hours of sleep; you’ve been home for what feels like days and wonder is there really life after baby? Do other moms feel this way?

Mother Mentors make a difference.

The Mother Mentor program matches new and expectant mothers one-to-one with experienced adult mothers. Mother Mentors are carefully screened and trained volunteers who believe in the value of family and the importance of emotional and educational support for new and teen mothers.

The Mother Mentor Program is available to women, single or married, who are pregnant or have a child under the age of two. Matches meet every week or every other week. The Mother Mentor and New Mother decide together when, where, and what they’d like to do. It could be going to a movie, learning new ideas for parenting, shopping, signing up for school, attending a Mother Mentor get-together or perhaps just running errands and talking. The important thing is that your New Mother has your undivided attention.

Ready to be a Mother Mentor?  Just fill out the simple online application or download an application.  After you complete it, a Big Brothers Big Sisters staff member will contact you to discuss the next steps.  You will be asked to :

• provide references
• participate in an in-person interview
• go through a background check
• attend training
