Teach Learn Care (TLC) Amachi program
Having a dad or mom in prison can negatively effect a child's growth. We know from some studies and our own observations that we need to collectively reduce our nation’s high rates of incarceration. But how can you make a difference? Well, mentoring a child of promise who has a parent in prison is a one way a citizen contributes to making a difference for that child.
Amachi, a Nigerian word of hope from the Ibo people means “who knows but what God has brought us through this child” and it is the name called by the initiative that connects children of promise with mentors from all walks of life and particularly those from local congregations.
We support all citizens and members of congregations who mentor the children in partnership with the child’s family. The nation’s houses of faith are communities of caring with a language of hope that adds support to the volunteer. Bigs in congregations serve not in isolation but with the professional support of agency staff and that of fellow congregation members.
